The Name Leak That Fills in the Blanks
Let us be clear up front: Samsung has not announced these headphones. Nothing here is confirmed. But the evidence is stacking up fast. According to 9to5Google, Android developer and occasional leaker @evowizz posted on X that Samsung’s upcoming over-ear headphones will be called “Galaxy Studio.” The same source correctly revealed the “Galaxy Buds On” name ahead of Samsung’s open-ear earbuds earlier this month — a track record that is earning this latest claim real attention.
Beyond the name, details stay thin. Design, release window, and pricing all remain unknown, though 9to5Google notes the headphones appear to be shaping up toward a launch “in the not too distant future.”
The Paper Trail: App Code in August, Trademark in September
The name is the newest piece of the puzzle, not the first. Back in August, 9to5Google confirmed SamMobile’s discovery: code strings and icon graphics inside Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable companion app referencing a device called “Galaxy H1” (model SM-U700) — over-ear headphones with Bluetooth connectivity, depicted in white, gray, and black. The leaked icons show a wide headband with an AirPods Max flavor and thicker, more cylindrical earcups closer to Sony’s WH-1000XM6.
Then, on September 14, Samsung filed a US trademark application for “Galaxy Studio” under Class 9, explicitly covering headphones, headsets, and earbuds — as SammyGuru’s digging uncovered. The earlier 2016 “Galaxy Studio” filing covered only retail and demonstration services, so this new one reads as serious product intent. Two independent evidence lines — software and legal — now point at the same unannounced product.
Why “Studio” Is a Statement of Intent
Samsung has not sold over-ear headphones under its own name since the Level line back in 2014. The $349.99 Level Over packed active noise cancellation and touch controls, and it still fizzled — the company spent the next decade ceding the premium over-ear segment to Sony, Bose, and Apple while the Galaxy Buds carried its audio business alone.
The “Studio” name, as Android Headlines noted, positions these squarely against the AirPods Max, Sony WH-1000XM6, and Bose QuietComfort Ultra: creator-grade gear, not commuter basics. And Samsung holds one card none of those rivals can play — its Seamless Codec, which delivers high-bitrate audio only when paired with Galaxy devices. An over-ear pair tuned for the Galaxy ecosystem, arriving just as Samsung pushes the open-ear Galaxy Buds On (launching in Korea on October 27), would complete an audio lineup that finally answers Apple’s.
Why this matters: Samsung’s last over-ear attempt died for a reason
Here is what the leak rewrites miss. The Level line failed because it was a me-too product with no ecosystem reason to exist — just another pair of headphones with a Samsung logo. The Galaxy Studio recipe is different on every axis that mattered in 2014: code evidence of active software development, a trademark filing, a proprietary codec that makes the headphones materially better on Galaxy phones than anything from Sony or Apple, and a “Studio” brand that promises pro positioning instead of generic lifestyle audio.
The read for buyers: if Samsung prices near the $349–$429 flagship band and ships the ANC chops the leaked silhouette promises, Galaxy owners finally have a reason to stop buying Sony. If it arrives late, overpriced, or without the codec advantage, it repeats 2014. The name is a promise; the next leak that actually matters is the price tag.

Also this week: Amazon just retired its Fire tablets and slashed prices — the other end of the gadget spectrum, where aging hardware goes to die cheap.
