Apple’s HomeView Hub Leaks Before Oct 13 Home Event

Apple’s Biggest Home Bet in Years

Tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ET, Apple is expected to do something it hasn’t done in years: launch an all-new product category for the home. According to MacRumors, summarizing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the centerpiece of Tuesday’s private “Welcome home” experience in New York is HomeView — a smart home hub with a touch-enabled display, an A18 chip, and Siri AI as its voice-first centerpiece.

Sunday’s leak filled in the hardware: a tabletop version with a metal speaker base in gray, silver, starlight and rose — offering “better sound quality” than the HomePod mini — plus a wall-mounted version with a flat square plate in gray and silver only. The design is said to echo the iMac G4, a floating display atop its base, with a FaceTime camera for video calls. It will be unveiled Tuesday but won’t ship until “around mid-November,” 9to5Mac reports. Apple has confirmed none of this beyond the October 13 experience itself.

The Rest of Tuesday’s Stack

HomeView isn’t arriving alone. Gurman says a second-generation HomePod mini and a new Apple TV 4K will also be unveiled Tuesday, shipping October 30 — two weeks ahead of the hub. MacRumors reports the HomePod mini 2 jumps from the 2019-era S5 chip to the Apple Watch Series 10’s S10, adds Wi-Fi 7 and a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, and comes in new colors including green and pink. The Apple TV 4K gets an A19 chip with 8GB of RAM and may gain built-in microphones for Siri AI.

One number to keep in mind: the HomePod mini’s US price rose to $129 in June, up from $99. With the whole stack refreshing at once, Tuesday is when Apple resets what “home” costs.

Why this matters: Apple is building the home it can’t build alone

The most revealing detail isn’t a chip — it’s the “Apple Home Collection.” Gurman reports Apple co-designed a line of accessories with LG and Schneider Electric: a smart doorbell, deadbolt lock, thermostat, temperature sensor, and indoor, outdoor and floodlight security cameras. LG manufactures and supports them, and they won’t ship until “later this year at the earliest.”

Translation: after a decade of ceding the smart home to Amazon and Google, Apple is admitting it can’t stock the shelves itself. The 2018 HomePod flopped at $349; the mini survived as a speaker, not a platform. HomeView is the platform play — but here is the risk the leak recaps skip: it runs Apple apps only, with no App Store. Third-party software may be limited to iPhone widgets projected onto the display.

That makes Siri AI the entire bet. The hub is voice-first — Siri is, in Gurman’s words, the centerpiece of the experience — so Apple’s long-promised Siri overhaul has to land on day one, in the room where the device lives. If Siri stumbles on HomeView, there is no app ecosystem to hide behind.
